Global Warming Extends Allergy Season

A team of researchers has recently discovered that the “allergy season” has been permanently extended or prolonged.   The research was published in the journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences”.  It confirms a correlation between these longer seasons and greenhouse gas emissions.  The research particularly noted that the northern half of North America has been especially hard hit, adding weeks to the fall season.

The areas most affected are those that have the most disproportionate warming.  Examples include Minneapolis which has added 16 days; Winnipeg has added 25 days; Saskatoon has added 27 days.  Areas further south such as Texas, Arkansas or Oklahoma have not experienced appreciable warming and therefore are not affected.

And while you may not think that this is applicable to you because you are not one of the 50 million Americans that have allergies, there is a very real danger to you.  This newly extended season has the potential to cause your immune system to finally reach a “saturation point”.  That means with a longer season and more powerful plants, your threshold for withstanding allergies may be altered and you may begin to experience the debilitating symptoms of allergies.  If you have been feeling “unlike” yourself and the symptoms in any way resemble those of an allergy, be sure to visit your health care professional for an accurate diagnosis.
